Shortly about Kharkiv Airport
Kharkiv airport – international airport of Kharkiv, which is one of main airports of Ukraine. It is situated in 12,5 km distance from the city-center.
Airport was founded in 1923, when the first unpaved runway was built in Sokolniki. First flights were started in 1924 on the routes Kharkiv – Poltava – Kiev and Kharkiv – Kirovograd – Odesa. First international flights started in 1928 on the route Kharkiv – Tehran. The new two-storied airport building in Osnova was opened in 1932. In 1933 the airport got the name of P.P. Postishev and in three years the airport became the best airport in USSR. A new concrete runway appeared in 1941.
In the 80s Kharkiv airport served about 900 thousand passengers per year. In the 90s airport was serving domestic flights only. In 1995 took place the capital reconstruction of air terminal, after what here appeared border and custom control points. The runway was also reconstructed.
Today the total area of Kharkiv airport is about 20 thousand square meters. It has two air terminals – one for domestic and international flights and one VIP terminal. Airport has two working runways, 2200m and 2500 meters. Airport can receive medium-range aircrafts.
